The mission of the Traffic Division is to reduce property damage, injuries, and deaths caused by traffic collisions in the community. They accomplish this through the use of preventative patrols, pro-active enforcement, speed measuring equipment, and radar trailers. The Traffic Division conducts detailed investigations of traffic accidents and citizen traffic complaints. The Traffic Division takes the lead in planning for parades and special community events. They are also assigned to funeral processions and dignitary escorts.
In addition to highly specialized automobiles, the Division also deploys motorcycles. A key benefit to having motorcycles as part of the Traffic Division is that deputies can easily maneuver in and out of heavily congested traffic during emergencies and community events. Another benefit is the cost. Equipping a police motorcycle is, typically, three times less the cost of a police vehicle. Also, fuel and maintenance on police motorcycles are far less expensive than the average patrol car.

In order to ride the motorcycles as part of a Traffic Patrol unit, deputies must successfully complete rigorous, specialized training and wear special protective gear.
