Douglas County Jail restraint chainsThe Jail Division is responsible for the incarceration of inmates, and the service of civil papers/judgments for the courts. Jail facilities are located in the Carson Valley and at Lake Tahoe. The main jail in Minden has a maximum capacity for 98 inmates, and the Lake Tahoe facility for 22 inmates. 

Douglas County Jail Control RoomA variety of duties and services are required to support the incarceration of inmates. These include the transportation of inmates to and from court, medical/dental appointments, and to other correctional and mental health institutions. To care for, house, and feed the daily inmate population the Jail Division maintains two kitchens which prepare all inmate meals, and operates an in-Douglas County Jail Deputy moving Inmateshouse “commissary” system where inmates can purchase additional food and supplies. The Jail Division also provides daily food and laundry service for the Youth Detention Center at Lake Tahoe.

The Jail Division is committed to maintaining high standards in inmate health and medical care and ensuring the mental and physical well being of inmates in our custody.Douglas County Jail Personnel We are accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.

The Jail Division is committed to helping rehabilitate inmates and prepare them for successful reentry into the community. The Jail Division has several inmate programs that include, substance abuse treatment programs, General Education Equivalency Diploma (GED), interdenominational religious services, job placement training, parenting and family skills, anger management and inmate labor programs.

Jail Expansion

The Jail Expansion project broke ground on November 2, 2009 with work starting on the 15,000-square-foot expansion of the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center on November 10, 2009.  The construction will take  approximately 10 months before the $4 million project is completed.  To view pictures of the progress click here:  Jail Expansion

 

 
Civil Division

The Civil department provides security and bailiff duties for the two district courts and two justice courts in Douglas County.  The civil deputies also serve legal paperwork within Douglas County.  See the fee schedule below for charges.

Payment in the form of a money order or cashiers check must be received at the time documents are received for service.  If sending by mail please address to:

For serving a summons or complaint, or any other process, by which an action or proceeding is commenced on each defendent:                                                          $17.00 + Mileage*

For serving a subpoena, for each witness summoned:                         $15.00 + Mileage*
