Deputies to attend Washington Police Officers Memorial 

Honor Guard members Deputy Nate Almeida and Deputy Joanne Cruz will be representing the Douglas County Sheriffs Office by attending Tuesday's memorial in Tacoma, Wash., for four slain police officers thanks to a donation from a supporter of the Sheriff's Advisory Council.

JAIL EXPANSION


Jail Access – Effective Monday, December 7, 2009, demolition work will begin on the vehicle sally port of the Minden jail.  Subsequently, all bookings should enter through the east office sally port by Jail Administration.  To facilitate bookings, three parking spaces have been designated along Water St.

Open House 2010
The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting our bi-annual open house in 2010.  While this usually occurs in the spring, next year’s open house will be scheduled to coincide with the completion of the Jail expansion and remodel some time in the fall, with tours of the new facility.  An announcement with the actual date for the open house will be sent out next year.

New Deputy Sworn In

On Monday, November 23, 2009 Deputy David Button was sworn in as our newest Douglas County Deputy Sheriff.  Deputy Button came to us from the Reno Police Department and has his category 1 P.O.S.T. cerfificate.  He has 21 years combined military service which includes 4 years active duty with the US Marine Corps and 17 years reserve duty with the Nevada Air National Guard.  He has been assigned to the DCSO jail Division.

P.O.S.T. Academy Graduation

Sheriff Ron Pierini is proud to announce the recent graduation of two Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies from the State of Nevada Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) Law Enforcement Academy.

Deputies David Cadwallader and Bill Coleman graduated from the academy on Friday, November 13th, 2009, after attending the academy for four months.  The P.O.S.T. academy is located at the Stewart Training Facility in Carson City.

During the academy, law enforcement cadets are instructed in such topics as; Federal, State and Local Laws, Laws of Search and Seizure, Laws of Arrest, Community Oriented Policing, Physical Fitness, Use of Force, Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing and Searching, Interpersonal Communication, Interview and Interrogation, Crime Scene Processing, Domestic Battery Investigation, Report Writing, Dispatch and Radio Procedure, Traffic Enforcement, Traffic Accident Investigation, Emergency Vehicle Operations, First Aid and Lifesaving Procedures, and a host of other law enforcement & public safety topics.

Deputies Cadwallader and Coleman have been with DCSO since February 2008.  Prior to that, Deputy Coleman was a 15 year veteran reserve officer with DCSO.

John Milby, Undersheriff Paul Howell, Sheriff Ron Pierini and Project Manager Scott McCullough stand where the addition to the new Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center in Minden will be built.
