Qualifications and testing process:

  • Written Exam
  • Physical Readiness Testing
  • Oral Board
  • Extensive Background Investigation
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Medical Examination

Written exams

Persons holding a current Category-I P.O.S.T. Certificate are exempt from taking the written exam.

Collateral Duty Assignments

As openings occur, Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies may test for assignment to any of the collateral duty assignments within our agency. These assignments are performed in addition to the member’s regular jail, patrol, or investigations duty assignment.  Members receive extra pay for collateral duties as set forth in the current collective bargaining agreement.
