Advanced Coroner Investigator
The Douglas County Sheriff-Coroners Unit is made up of 11 specially trained medical-legal death investigators to handle those coroner cases that are suspicious, criminal in nature or that pose a potential health threat to the public.
Deputy Coroners undergo a basic 16 hour course to investigate suspected deaths. The next step is to spend one week with the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office in Reno, Nevada where they are introduced to autopsy protocols and detailed death investigations. The final phase of their training includes two weeks of assignment with the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Deputy Coroners will attend other specialized courses throughout their tenure as a Sheriff-Coroner Investigator.
