Douglas County is geographically located in western Nevada approximately 15 miles south of our State's capitol, Carson City. Within our County's 750 square miles, 50,000 residents have the opportunity to enjoy the south shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe, the very scenic and attractive agricultural land in Carson Valley, and the unlimited recreational opportunities that Topaz Lake offers. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office serves as the County's only local law enforcement agency. There are a total of 122 people employed by our Office that includes four divisions; Administration, Investigations, Jail, and Patrol. Our motto of "A Tradition of Service" represents our employee's commitment to serve the citizens of Douglas County and to those who visit. Our youth educational programs such as D.A.R.E. (Drug Awareness Resistance Education), G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) and our Law Enforcement Explorers remain distinct priorities with our agency.
Our SWAT, Crisis Negotiation Team, Bomb Squad, K-9, Motors, Boat Patrol and School Safety Intervention Teams are just a few of the many specialized opportunities that are made available to our employees.
